SECURITY BY OBSCURITY
Protect your most valuable asset, your data by encrypting it at source in your Oracle or SQL Server database.
ICE, Xicon's Integrated Cryptography Environment is an encryption library add-on to your database management system which will securely encrypt the data in your database tables in a way which protects the data from unauthorised access therefore addressing many of your regulatory needs.
Used by some of the largest financial institutions, Xicon's solution is "Security by Obscurity". ICE can be implemented in such a way that your backups are completely encrypted, removing the worries of offsite data storage for DR. Because ICE encrypts the actual data in the tables, the data is protected from access from casual workers and even from your own trusted system administrators to whatever degree is appropriate.
Typical implementations involve selective encryption on a column or row basis with decryption based on the identity means of access or location of the viewer. Because decryption happens within the database, ICE can be implemented with no changes to your application interfaces allowing you to apply a blanket of security to your systems in a matter or hours. For example if the user is not authorised to see somebody's name or financial details, these could be returned as '***Encrypted***' within the application.
So exports to Excel and the casual export of data to csv or txt files becomes a thing of the past as the data is protected at source. If data is exported to Excel by an authorised user then where this file is stored or how it is transported is up to you. There are plenty of excellent products on the market such as PGP which will allow you to email and store files in a secure way. Licenced on a server basis, ICE is not aimed at addressing this sector. Remember, ICE takes care of the source of the data, your database.
All of Xicon's engineers are security cleared so you can be sure we will take your requirements seriously and confidentially.
