The retail marketplace faces a variety of issues ranging from fast paced change in consumer demand, increasing legislation along with a slowdown of consumer spending growth and increasing margin pressures.

Achieving a strategic advantage in this sector has never been so challenging. Retailers often have multiple operational transactional systems such as merchandise management, ERP and POS, each collecting vast amounts of data. However, in most companies this information exists in isolation and is therefore not integrated or analysed in the most efficient manner.

Xicon have worked in partnership with a number of retail clients developing and delivering innovative solutions that meet the individual business challenges faced in the retail sector.

UK Retailer - A browser based solutions to allow the general public to view clients products and purchase them online. An Oracle database was used to house the data with a Java middle tier making use of Struts, Tiles and Spring, utilising Apache and Tomcat and interfacing with the Endeca search engine.

Leisure Facility - A browser based solution to administer the facilities new business venture, covering everything from customer details, bookings for facilities, a purchasing facility/shopping basket, an online availability enquiry as well as the ability 'clip' digital video, captured pitch side, to dynamically create match highlights for display in the bar (an innovation developed by Xicon). The complete solution has been developed using Java, JBOSS Web Services, .Net and Oracle technologies.
